2022 GLS 450. “AC 913 - Air conditioning preinstallation for hot countries

Hello Guys I am in Texas and I’m in the process of buying a 2022 GLS 450 that in the sticker says
913 - Air conditioning preinstallation for hot countries“
what does that mean? Is it missing a cooling feature that could affect me here in Texas? It does get hot down here.
TIA

I have the same on mine. I think it just means that the AC in your GLS won't be underpowered! LOL!

Have you compared with other GLS? How is it performing, specially for the rear passengers as I dnt have the 5th zone.

AC is fine but I do have the 5 zone option. Passengers in 3rd row may pass out w/o that option!

They do pass out. Recently I had a GLS rental without the 3rd row vents and ferrying 7 passengers. We had to keep the 2nd row windows cracked for airflow to the 3rd row passengers. It was really annoying to drive with the windows cracked on the freeway.

Most GLS vehicles I searched before I bought mine didn’t have the 3rd row or 5 zone AC option. That made it really hard for me to find the car I want as that was a must have. Finally found the one with the options I wanted and the 5 zone AC option. I don’t understand why anyone would order a car like this without the 3rd row AC. 3rd row becomes useless without AC.

Probably the reason why the car sits on a lot!
If this was a lease return, I'm sure they were more than glad to hand it back to the dealer!

Texas can be assimilated with "hot country", so 913 is perfect there.

913 - Air conditioning preinstallation for hot countries is only a setting for engine/climate fan to start earlier compared with models for "cold countries".

For a hot country, the 5 zone is probably more important than what you described (especially on a remote start to cool down the car)!

Zones will be listed under the 58x Option Codes. It's part of the Climate, 913 is about engine fan

I don't know about remote start, is not legal in the EU

OP lives in Texas so remote start is still relevant for him I think!

Thank you for being the only that truly contributed to my question. The “Pre-installation” word made believe that there was something missing. I know it is missing the 5th zone, but the reality is that the 3rd row spends 97% fold it. I only have two kids and I just wanted to have larger trunk space than the GLE than I had. Once again thank you.

I went to the dealer to test drive the GLS, my GLE was feeling a bit too small for my double stroller. I have no use for the 3rd row as I already have a 2024 Sienna Platinum. I just wanted a bigger trunk. Also, the lady who traded in the GLS was there and I was able to talk to her. Her husband upgraded her to a G-wagon. Meanwhile I fell I love with her suv, white/black, fully loaded, AMG package, night package , H/U display and driving assistance. Plus I negotiated since I was paying cash. Car wasn’t even posted, so waiting 3 days for them to clean it and do the CPO process. My point, it never sat in the dealer.

Yes, the car is perfect for your situation since you only have 2 kids and want the bigger trunk!
I always think ahead for resale value as I may get rid of it down the road (for whatever reason) and a 5-zone AC car will sell faster than one without! Just saying!

Just FYI . Paying cash doesn’t give you any advantage, it is actually the complete opposite. U only have an advantage to negotiate better when you finance (dealer will be more excited about the deal when the buyer is financing; paying cash means less potential revenue for the dealer). Same when negotiating on a car that the dealer just received. Usually for the first 7 days they set the price high waiting and hunting for a buyer who wants exactly that car, and they won’t move too much on the price until they test the market for 2+ weeks

This post got out of topic! I just wanted to know what Mercedes meant a by “pre installation “. Beyond that, I am pretty of what I am doing with regard to negotiations and all that. Thank you tho.

It might not be activated in the US. I think it's more for countries like Dubai maybe? Do you have any insight on this? I know BenzNinja has it on his coding menu to activate it

I don't think that US has different procedures, is the same here in EU

Cars without "preinstalation" need Activation SD Card prior to MAP Update Card
Thanks. I don't need to activate mine as my AC gets ice cold very quickly here in SoCal. I was more curious about this hot climates AC and whether most cars have this option code but it might only be activated by software in certain regions of the world like the middle east.

Do you mind elaborating more on that? How do you activate it? Cost? Lastly, what is an AC pack?!

does activating make the AC colder or what?
