Hi all,

Just got a new-to-me 2018 AMG GTC roadster with ~20k miles. Love the driving experience, theatre, road presence, etc., but inside the cabin there are a decent number of spots creaking and rattling, i.e.
- instrument cluster
- behind the headrest near the "flaps" of the convertible top
- seat around the thigh bolsters
- door panel

I haven't tried too hard to isolate the problem, chase them down, or fix them. But I'm wondering how many others are experiencing such creaks and rattles on similarly aged/milage GT's?

FWIW my 08 bmw m3's cabin is much quieter in comparison :/

 

I have a 2017 GTS with 17,000 miles. No creaks or rattles in the car but the 60 year old owner has a fair number of creaks and rattles.

 

My 2018 GT coupe was solid, without a squeak in 3 years. My 2020 GT convertible is also squeak-free after 4 years.

 

Interesting, good to know -- for what it's worth I took some time today to do a bit of diagnosis and it seems to mostly come from the seat bolster and the plastic trim piece around the seat/bolster controls. I put a small piece of foam between it and the seat and I'd say I've fixed 90% of it. There's still small rattles sometimes coming from the instrument cluster and the convertible flaps behind my ear, but only really over pretty rough patches of road.

Overall I'd say it's acceptable for the time being, although interesting to others' cars are pretty solid.

 

Shoot I do remember having a rattle on the instrument cluster. I stuck some foam in the circled area and it took care of it.

 

The chassis of my 2016 GTS creaks/pops when going up or down entrance ramps to alleys or parking lots. Also have some squeaks that I think are from the suspension, but only noticeable when moving very slowly. At speeds higher than 15mph or so, the road noise dominates the squeaks.

 

I have a rattling inside door handle, a instrument cluster rattle at times, creaks from the roof when entering a steep driveway, and another rattle somewhere in the back. the road noise (which is significant) drowns out most of it. this is not a good daily. i'm currently searching for something to daily so that I can stop always stealing my wives new X5.

 

Might also be worth asking the responders if they are too old to hear the creaks/rattles. My GTS had 2, one around the infotainment screen, and another around the center console. Had to shove some foam behind the screen to help, never could resolve the console creak.

I've sat in a few different GT cars of various trims and sadly they all had at least 1 creak or rattle.

 

do you have the pano or carbon roof?

 

It’s a must buy for gt owners (gtc and gtr come with it)
Amg claimed that it improved rigidity by 15% which is great for the money (paid $2k used)

 

Do you have the part numbers?

 

No rattles in mine but I don't wear my hearing aides while driving.

 

First of all its a "race car" so I wouldn't expect the soundproof room experience My vert top rattles some as well and takes bumps on the road like a Sherman tank. Second, I don't hear the rattles/noises much because I usually have my B-Master cranked or the exhaust muffles the noises Third, I have the top down and the whistling of the birds and the glean of the sunshine drowns all the negative vibes I write most of these "inconveniences" off as the price you pay for owning a fine piece of German engineering :
