< $75 Scan Tool of Choice for GLC300
Had my first Check Engine Light this morning after owning my new/used CPO '24 GLC300 for about a month w/18,000 miles. I still don't know the fault code that triggered it so I pulled out my once trusty tool, the AUTEL AP200 and it's been discontinued, no longer supported and no Mercedes subscription. With that, what is the hand scan tool of choice, I've been on Amazon and just too much information....... THANKS

streborx, THANKS for the response but a bit pricy for my needs, I may occasionally change the oil/filter and all the cabin and engine filters, in the past my Autel Scanner identified I needed to change out the O2 Sensor on my 981S which I did but those days are less and less. Just need something to understand a check engine light, reset the maintenance or clear a fault. I was looking at the iCarsoft MB V1.0 more moderately priced @ $129.95
The Launch scanner can be found elsewhere for a bit less.

I bought one of my scanners from kingbolen, and they're a reliable distributor with usually the best prices.

Good advice by the other forum member and a plus 1 from me on the launch, since you don't need variant coding, you could also get a cheaper V1.0 Benz version for cheaper perhaps check amazon and a few others.

W205C43PFL, streborx, Thanks for your collective input....... Still looking at the Launch X431 Creader Elite 2.0, I sent kingbolentool a note asking what does "Global Version" mean and would it be in English, awaiting response. In the meantime, I also read user feedback and it seems a tad-bit complex to operate for a novice want-to-be like me. With that, I refocused on iCarsoft and I see they also have MB V2.0 and MB V3.0, MB V4.0, so considering V2.0 but not sure what that adds. As previously mentioned, I have the new/used '24 GLC300 4matic and my wife has a '26 GLC300 4matic coming the end of the month. I think (?) both units would cover X254, I see they have free updates but for me iCarsoft is a bit confusing when it talks about certain models, especially the Sprinter + only certain years covered. I also sent them a note about the GLC300 coverage, etc.
BTW, after scrambling around a bit now down to one car, my wife mentioned that she saw on our MB App that a LOW Battery Warning had been issued, so I immediately connected it to our CTEK MXS 5.0 CHARGER and after 4 hours it was fully charged and now no Check Engine light. I don't think a Low Battery would trigger a Check Engine Light however I remembered these security and technology intense vehicles use lots of power off-line and the Porsche would spawn phantom fault codes when the battery went low, so that's solved but still going to get a scanner regardless so I have some clue what occurring. Thanks again for your recommendations.
NEW INFO from kingbolentool re Global Version - "Supports English menus; global version means it has no regional restrictions and is available worldwide."

Yup get the elite benz v2.0 and you are golden.
The V1.0 has no variant coding and no internal battery so once you unplug it from the odb port, it turns off. Make sure to install all software updates when you receive the unit.

If all you wanted to get the tool for was because of the engine light and have no need for it in the near future maybe don't get the tool since you resolved it with the ctek. Unless you have other cars you might use it for.

W205C43PFL, Thanks for the advice, yup I think I'll go with V2.0. I always want to be prepared just in case another Check Engine Light might appear + I'll probably do an oil change or two so I'll need the service indicator reset function.
By the way to OP: I found this post in another thread while browsing the forums, that might or might not help as well https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post9283200

W205C43PFL......WHOA......... Read the PotatoheadII post, for those technically astute in this space (which I am not) seems to be a well written and a very good overview of the scanner capabilities vs. the wants of users who possess those talents. Now, give me a house to build (as the general and hands on) and I'm on it... Cars not so much but enjoy driving a precision German Engineered Machine. As a young lad station at Pearl Harbor in the mid 70s, the Navy offered what they called an "Auto Hobby Shop", I purchased a used 1958 220S from the Hawaii MB Dealer and thought I do a simple tune-up. Chalk marked the distributor, installed the spark plugs and was ready to change out the points, unbeknownst to me with oil on hand as I pulled the distributor, I erased the chalk mark. Took me about a week to find dead center so....... I knew back then not so mechanically inclined.

I wish there is a dedicated thread with scanner recommendations and confirmed suitability of which models.

Bit the bullet and just purchased the LAUNCH X431 Creader Elite 2.0 for Mercedes-Benz through Kingbolen for $139. After re-reading the potatoheadII post where he mentioned 2026 model scanning + my wife's '26 glc300 coming the end of the month, said why not. Looks to be a pretty robust scanner for the cost & 3-5 day free shipping too. So, I hope I'll be able to manage the User's Manual and do some simple tasking, always better to go more than what you need, you never know. THANKS to both "W205C43PFL" and "streborx" for identifying Kingbolen, your comments made this easy. Have a Great Day

I guess the benefit of kingbolen is that they have US warehouses so they can ship really fast for the US customers. For launch creader specific discussion see here as well: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...onal-more.html
The thread started with the V1.0 but expanded to talking about the V2.0 as well in the more recent posts.
Remember to install all updates when you get the unit as it might be outdated, it will bring bug fixes, improvements, new features, stability, etc.

W205C43PFL, How right you are, probably should have written "THANKS to both "W205C43PFL" and "streborx" for identifying Kingbolen, your comments made this easy. Have a Great Day" a little bit more clearly. streborx certainly alerted me to kingbolen and also to potatoheadII's post which further had me leaning towards the Launch but never the less, you also added insight and guidance along the way as well of which I am thankful.

Sorry didn't realized I made things confusing for you but glad I was able to help however little I did.
I just felt like giving credit to the other forum members because I didn't do much (if anything at all).
Hope you find the scanner useful, just make sure to install all the updates when you get the unit.
For MBUX 2.0 or 3.0, if I recalled correctly, you press and hold the home button for 10 seconds and release and immediately ok button for 10 seconds and assyst plus (workshop menu) will pop up. You need to make sure to be in the state of ignition position 1 and on the screen that shows your trip and odometer first.
Some settings to set in settings would be enabling the screen capture toggle so you can take a screenshot if you need it, as well as go to screen brightness and set the timeout you want.
The latest firmware version is XWP_V200_007, you go to Settings>About>Version>"Detection system update" to update
For the MB programs, you just stay on the home screen and choose the upgrade tile/menu option and select everything to be upgraded then hit install. I believe the latest stable version is Mercedes-Benz/Maybach V50.45, there might be higher beta versions on the launch product page, I will stick with the stable one.
I got this scanner myself and it has been pretty solid, I found the scanner in this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...onal-more.html
The thread initially talked about the V1.0 version but expanded on talking about V2.0 version.
Furthermore, the Benz Elite V2.0 just means you have the Benz specific diagnostic software installed, you can purchase other makes from the store (if I recalled correctly it might be subscription based) if you need it. Or if you have other German cars, specifically MB, BMW and Audi (they have something called the BBA) edition which includes all those software so you don't have to purchase it later on in the store.
Here is the link to the "BBA" version (Benz, BMW, Audi) they call it if you have other makes and need that instead: https://kingbolentool.com/products/2...-bidirectional
The other advantage of the "BBA" version is that it has physically navigation buttons shown here:
https://kingbolentool.com/cdn/shop/f...722&width=1200
versus the regular benz elite v2.0:https://kingbolentool.com/cdn/shop/f...836&width=1200

Edit: Looks like there is no certainty if it will work on a 2026 model year MB, I hope kingbolen's return policy is good if you do need to RMA it. The Launch X431 Pros V5.0 that was mentioned is likely over budget since you were initially looking for a $75 USD scanner, in that case, maybe stick with the Elite Benz V2.0 and hope there is a cable to support the 2026 model year cars.
