2026 Instrument Panel Anti Glare Film
So I bought a 2026 GLE 450 sight unseen, common for me. I passed on an X5 because they are so ugly now but specifically because I hate matte screens. I love the sharp bright appearance of glossy screens like the ones on my iPhone, iMac, MacBook and the 2023 E53 I just sold. I picked up the car today and was stunned to see the display covered in a matte coating!! I am beside myself. Has anyone tried removing the matte film? I'm going to guess no since they probably cost $8k. Does the 2025 model have a matte screen? I'm going to have to find one from a salvage car or maybe trade it with someone that likes the matte coating.

Can confirm my family member's V167 does not have a matte screen either. In fact I don't think any modern MBs' touchscreen has a matte screen. For example my personal W214 E class does not have a matte screen and fingerprint prone.

My guess is that it's likely an upgrade by someone who likes anti-glare screens and dislikes fingerprints. I'm in that category, and won't buy a TV with a gloss screen.
If that's correct, find a window tint person to have it removed.

I just purchased a 2026 GLE450 in December. No Matte screen on mine either. Could you possibly have a protective film on yours that the dealer failed to remove before delivery?

This is the first one I've ever seen on any MB. It looks like it's there on purpose and there's no tabs or anything to pull it off. I will have to ask the dealer about it and see what they say but it's a big disappointment. I used to own a window tinting business long time ago but I'm sure I can easily remove it. I worry that glossy screen underneath maybe is different like they skipped other coatings because matte was added.

Interesting, I did not know they offer that option, my family member actually complaints about the glossy screen in their GLE, if she would get a replacement she will likely option it to matte if it was an option. Perhaps I will suggest her to get a matte screen protector instead. Cheaper than replacing the car.

I talked to the dealer and the anti glare film is indeed aftermarket. Apparently everyone gets it automatically and pays for it automatically. They said I can take it off so I assume that means it will peel right off, we'll see. I put a bright led light in the pic.

nice, glad you don't have to sell the car anymore, the GLE is a good vehicle. How much did the dealership charge you for this option that you didn't want on the bill of sale?
