C63 foot brake/parking brake

Hey guys my foot brake/parking brake keeps getting stuck and wont release or spring back when i pull the hand catch, i already replaced the whole assembly with a new one about 3 years back and already it's stuck to the floor again and barely releasing. Is there an aftermarket kit or fix for this to make it stronger? i dont get why my E550 has never had this problem but my C63 is plauged by it. Indy wants $550 to replace the assembly.

Hah ! I am in the same boat as you except my other MB where the parking brake releases just fine is my 2014 CLS550. And the C63's parking brake is indeed sticky. I believe many of the C class platforms from this era have this issue - my 2015 GLK that has been sold had the same problem. It is a design flaw I expect and we will have to live with it. Don't bother replacing with another new part - the same issue will arise in time. I know - I had the part replaced on my GLK in the past and nothing was resolved. I use my left foot and encourage the parking brake to release ( push upwards with your toe hooked underneath) while simultaneously pulling on the release catch. Great job Mercedes, great design right here !

Common issue on W204 C63. The return spring inside the pedal assembly is too weak. New assembly will fail again. Don’t bother with aftermarket none worth it. Best fix: lube the cable and mechanism with white lithium grease, then manually help the pedal return with your foot every time. Or pay the indy once and hope it lasts. Annoying but common. E550 has different design.

parts wear out on a 15year old car. "design flaw" is an interesting way to put it. Replace it and it will fail in another 15 years. lol. I guess my tires are a design ffaw too they only last 3000 miles on the rear.

If you go back an read my post, i stated that i already replaced the part once 3 years ago and under 10,000 miles of use. I have had multiple Mercedes and none of them had this issue. If it lasted 15 years i would be fine with that.

Yeah, mine did that and was replaced under warranty. The new one comes up off the floor, but just barely. A bad design with a wimpy return spring.

anyone have a diagram of the spring so I can find a slightly stronger one to replace mine with? I'm thinking a stronger spring and some white lithium grease should do it.

Here is a good post on the parking brake pedal function: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...lubricate.html

Is the release not working? I cant imagine the springs that reset the parking brake pedal wearing out.

I always thought the springs on the rear parking brake cables are responsible for resetting the parking brake pedal. I had to replace the drivers rear parking brake cable and it was pretty difficult with how strong those springs are. At the time I dont think I was installing it right since I didnt have access to the MB manuals, I just winged it. My rear dust shields were so rusted that the springs holding the pads in place had fallen off while driving. Very dangerous situation. The spreader was so rusted I couldnt open it up to remove the parking brake cable, cut the cable instead.

Then the springs in the parking brake pedal area are responsible for returning the pads in away from the rotors.
