New Battery: Window & Hardtop issue

My sl has been off the road for over a year and i required a new battery, after my old battery would no longer hold a charge.

Ive replaced the battery with a new one and am now having issues with the windows and hardtop.

The windows are not dropping as i open the doors, and are moving to far up into a position too high for the roof, above the rubbers.

Also i am unable to eject the hardtop.

Its almost like the car thinks it has the softtop on, not the hardtop.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.....

Resent the windows by lowering both of them simultainiously and holding the down buttons for a full two seconds.

That single action resets the window timing.

look in the owners manual

The resetting procedure is detailed in the owners manual. It is a good idea to read it from cover to cover periodically. It contains a lot of useful information

Letting an SL sit for too long is not good for the car. Among other things, the electronics will really start acting goofy as the standby voltage slowly drops. You will also risk various seals and gaskets drying out, which could prove very expensive.

I agree that you need to reset the windows, but I don't think the process is quite as was described. You should put both windows down a ways; but then, one at a time, raise each UP and after it hits the rubber at the top and stops moving, continue to hold the button UP for two seconds.

It sounds like you are pushing the top control button the wrong way. As the other guy said, read the manual and check that you're doing it right.
