Replacing the Plastic Soft Top Windows
I have seen posts regarding replacing these as opposed to the soft top or sections of the soft top.
I tried to Google the topic but found no local services that way.
Is it the type of service an upolstry shop, auto glass shop or a car restoration shop does? Do they supply the materials? Or are the window panels supplied through MB?
I suppose I should start at the MB dealership and ask for references.

Hi,
my plastic has gone too, I spoke to MB but they only sell the rear section of roof
(costs £ 2800 plus tax in the uk !!!!)
I have found a couple of companies that will just sew new panels in (they will supply , I think this is best option although you won't have the MB poly glass print on there any more
I the trick would be to find out who makes the plastic and see if the will sell you a "sample set"
I am trying this trick at the moment ...

If you're in the UK, try Trimmania in Reading. When I had my now departed and much missed SL600, they replaced them for £300 + tax, excellent job and much less than the cost of a new roof.
The rear section of the soft top comes off separately to allow them to do it, great job.
Be especially careful about folding the roof on crisp spring mornings. One of my windows cracked in the cold. As for the MB logo missing, I wouldn't worry about it.

I recently had the rear section of the top replaced on my dad's '97 SL. I spoke to 5 different shops in my area that were recommended to me and all 5 said they only replace the rear top section and do NOT do just the clear plastic sewn into an existing top. I got quotes ranging from $2000 on the high side, down to $850 on the low side. The $850 quote was from the best shop, so I used them for the work. This quote was for the american made copy using the same materials as OEM, most quoted this part and not MB's part for this job. Now that it's done it looks 100% stock and you can tell it's been worked on. I wish someone around here would sew in new plastic b/c I'd like to have some of the tinted plastic on my SL to match the tinted glass (like the new jeeps have).

got mine done (windows replaced) by soft-tops.co.uk in SoutEast London - £245inc vat.
very decent job... no complaints. Cheapest anywhere i could find.
Remember the most expensive part is the labour! so if you don't need a new top, just get the windows replaced.

Yes Sifa did as well but when I spoke to MB they wanted to replace the roof section !!!!Cheers for that tip I work near reading so I think I will give them a go
