To clean or not to clean?

Do you clean your engine compartment, or do you leave it dirty?

I use water (high-pressure) and soap to clean my compartment (once a year), and every time I end up dismantle the coils and sparkplugs because of all the water in the holes for the sparkplugs I´m intrested in how you do, especially with the M119 (V8) engine.

Never use high pressure water. I learnt the hard way on an E55 of mine. All the warning lights came on as the water made it through to the electric swithces/connectors!
I use some engine degreaser and get a damp sponge and wipe it off. Then i use a detailing spray to shine the engine.

I also use engine degreaser and I know that I should´t use high-pressure, but it´s so hard to get the whole engine clen without doing it. I had no problem with the BMW Compact or the VW Passat. However, on the Saab 9-5 Areo I filled the front lamps and the mass-meter with water and just like you, engine-lamp went on

Maybe I should, ones in a while, strip the engine and hand-wash it with a toothbrush :p

I just don´t trust cars that is´t tolerate to water What do the dealers use to get the engine clean?

#My friend did his 320 with water. Sat there for an hour covering all electrical components with plastic and tape....
