iPod Installed in R129 - Clean, easy and very functional.
Below is an animated picture of the iPod installed in my R129.
I used an iPod hard case from Contour Designs (http://www.contourdes********/showcase/index.htm) and a small bungee cord to keep tension on the mount. The bungee is mounted to a removable (belt) clip, so you can attach the (belt) clip and mount it as shown and remove the iPod from the mount when leaving the vehicle. The iPod will also fit inside the compartment if you want to leave it and keep it out of sight, you can.
I also used the MP3 adapter from (http://www.formymercedes.com/mb_resu...ry=MP3+Adapter) and a simple 3.5mm stereo plug to provide perfect sound quality. The cable was purchased at (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cg...item=SP-SPSC-5), features right angles and gold plated connections.
My legal disclaimer for this is; "Don't use the iPod controls while driving, this could result in an accident". Enjoy...

Sorry to borrow this thread, but it´s almost the same...
I use my iPAQ for my navigation software Destinator, and I was wonder where I should put it. The solution was to buy a holder to a extra rear-view mirror, strip it down and glue some part of it to the iPAQ jacket. Here is som pictures of it.

Is this still a good solution for MP3?
This thread is now a few years old.
We are just now looking to see what current options are available to play IPod &/or MP3 music in out 1999 SL 500 which does have the Bose sound system.
At Best Buy today we saw that there may be an option of abandoning the 6 CD Changer (which lately seems to be skipping more & more often on disks 3, 4 & 5 only??) and going to a custom head unit that would play a single CD or DVD MP3 files and also have a IPod plug in
Can any one provide current feedback on upgrading the 1999 stereo system?
Thanks

I was thinking about converting that little space into a lockable gun cabinet. I live in Texas BTW and it's legal to carry in your car. It would be perfect. Lockable and accessible in an emergency.

It's already a lockable gun case. It's flocked to protect the finish of the gun and locks with central locking on the vehicle. The very first R129 I saw in 1990 had a .357 snub nose in this compartment. I use mine for the gun all the time but just remember not all guns fit this relatively small compartment.

There is a Mercedes OE cell phone installed in my dash compartment. The keypad is in the compartment and the handset is in the armrest. I'll have to do something about that...

You need to take that useless old phone out and get the space back in both compartments. I think there is how to somewhere on this forum that I used and I can't remember if I posted anything on the topic? I do recall it being easy and you can just gently work the cables left over back into the hole(s) they came out of. I didn't cover the hole, but I don't put anything small enough to fall into the dash in there. I have the control for my Passport SRX in the compartment but it's quite small and slim, so certain "hardware" still fits in the "gun case".

Any one willing to give some advice on MP3 / Ipod installations that achieve CD quality sound?
