hardtop delimma..

I paid $300 for a unused top and will cost me $150 to paint to match and another $100 for a friend to pick it up for me out of state ($550 total).

I'm having 2nd thoughts and am considering loosing my $100 deposit and not picking it up.

My SL is for summer use only and will probably sell this car (and upgrade to another) this fall or next spring.

By not having a hardtop, will it hurt the future sale of my 1990 all black 100,000 mile 300SL by more than the $450 I will be saving now?

I'd say so.

People expect the full package and could be suspicious at best if not completely turned off if there were no hard top in the offer.

Good decision Brett. And I really believe you're getting the hardtop for a really good price. The car will definately sell better if you have the complete package. I've not seen the hardtops sewll for less than a grand, so consider your purchase a steal!

I have been following r129 hardtops on eBay for 1 month. Here are some auctions that have ended that I can remember off the top of my head.

96 white w/tan in south florida, sold $130 but had a $300 reserve.
94 maroon in orlando $500 reserve, no bids.
98 black in California hail damage sold under $100.
Nice silver w/grey in Long Island sold $340.
New black with hoist in California (relisted 3x) no bids $2000 reserve.
Nice silver NYC area, $300's currently.

There were more, but I can't remember them all.
