Nice, & I thought it was about cars. I guess "Net-Nerd" upset a few people...
Clifton sucks after you leave school!

You obviously don't live in Clifton.... (best area of Bristol).
Tell me Pigsmickey, do your neighbours think you're a prat or is it only me?

I'd agree, except I had a significant shunt in mine (spun it in the wet into a crash barrier, lucky to be alive) and there are lots of tell-tale signs like uneven panel gaps - look at the door, for example - so most people would run a mile from it.
Key thing was that the tubular chassis was unaffected, so alignment is perfect and it drives fine, it's just its "clothes" which are slightly untidy. The greatest car to drive though, in the dry. In the wet, it now stays firmly in the garage!

911 is the daily driver and I accept I cannot keep it looking pristine, just cared for. It will inevitably pick up the odd scar - there are already 3 un-get-at-able dimples in the roof thanks to flying tyre rubber from a truck. The SL is for top down motoring and trips away, it's the most practical and comfortable of the three by a mile. Ferrari is for day trips out and back where there's no worry where I'm going to leave it - excursions into Wales, for example.
I'm pretty much retired now, so lots of time...

My mate is a dealer, he advised me to get a 911. He reckons best performing supercar & daily runner ever... Only thing is, a convertible 911 turbo is mega bucks. I run my own electronic security company & do approx 500 - 1000 miles a week, this mileage is expensive in the V12.
True, I do have several cars that are more practical. But who wants practical!
If I wanted practical, I'd never leave the diesel van...

The problem with a mid-engine car is that the polar moment of inertia is low by design. This makes it change direction very easily but if the wide tyres aquaplane, the car will spin like a top.
I was on the M1, hit standing water at 65 mph, spun through 360 degrees, brakes worked, steering didn't and I hit the barrier, ending up wedged under it. I'm only alive because nothing hit me during my antics. £22k repair bill plus tax. Insurance company not happy.

Yes, you can find 355 replicars which are MR2 based. They're not the real thing, though.
I came back to the 911 after I sold my SL600 last year; it had become a maintenance headache and also too similar to the SL55 to drive - more luxury GT than out and out sports car. So now I have three cars which offer very different driving experiences and the 911 is best suited to my temperament as a daily driver.
There's no doubt the 911 is a very usable car, every day, in spite of ridiculous lack of luggage space up front if you have 4WD, worse than the Ferrari which has a deep space up front. But, the 911 is pretty bullet proof if you look after it, some quality concerns so extended warranty is a must. My 911 has the Carrera Power Pack which ups the power to 345 bhp, nowhere near the SL but it is a much lighter car so real-world performance is comparable.
500-1000 miles in any performance car is a lot though and while the 911 may use less fuel, it has an appetite for expensive tyres and, as I have already found, expensive clutches.

My problem is the car would never pass any sort of dealer inspection prior to sale. I know for example, that it was fitted with the wrong under-tray (it has one from the Spider) but as it's a £750 piece of plastic, I'm not about to replace it and it's 9 years since I stuffed it.

My neighbour has just knocked my door, he has a 95 SL 320. He's left it outside the pub last night because it won't start, he says the fob opens the car but when he inserts and turns the key just the SRS light comes on. It turns over but won't start. He replaced the fob batts this morning and tried again, but the same happens. It's turning over fast enough though.
Any thoughts... Immobiliser may be? Can the SL keys be reprogrammed?

I love the SL 600, it's relatively quick in a straight line. But! There's always a BUT! I'd like it quicker, it's not worth spending a fortune to try and make it what its not. But 6 litres should be quicker... Have you seen the pics of the SL600 with the super charger?

I found that when the batteries are low, it will still unlock the doors but not re-enable the immobiliser. You say you put new batteries in, worth double checking them.

Hey everyone..
I havent moved my SL in a while so i cant remember the proper oil pressure.
Seems like its low.
WHen the car is cold.. the idle oil pressure is around 3. WHen it warms up around 10 miles teh oil pressure is around the 2 mark (stop light in Drive)
When i drive on the freeway around 30 miles.. the oil pressure at idle goes to perhaps 1.3 -- 1.5 on the meter.
When i give it gas or moving completely it goes all the way to 3.
Whats everyone elses SL like?
Fk
