SL/R129: Low Idle

1990 500SL
Low Idle
on my 1990 500SL, since i bought the car it idles at 500 when in gear. 800 in park/neutral. if i turn the A/C on, in drive it goes down to 450, in park/neutral, it drops to 500. i also always get a gassy smell at idle, and a rotten egg smell when i stop at a red light.
i found dealer recording show the previous owner had the car adjusted more rich as it was running way to lean, causesing starting problems.
is there anyway i can adjust the lean/rich control and the idle RPM?
