repaint questions

im going to get an estimate for repainting my baby tomorrow

are there any questions that I should ask the painters? (they are a reputable company)

are there any things i should tell them to watch out for when painting my SL? i know this car may be more complicated to repaint than most...

Hi Rellik:

Are you getting the whole car painted or just a repair? I had a difficult time finding a company to paint my entire 190E. Most of the shops near me specialize in accident repairs and said a full paint would tie up their line too long. The ones who would paint the car estimated $3K - $7K. While I might pay that to paint my SL500, the price was a bit high for the 190E.

There are some threads on the issues involved in getting a good paint job, If I can find them, I'll post a link. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Will

This is just an idea.
Cost of total repaint here in Lebanon on My M5 was USD 450..Oven backed..
Ship your car here @ USD 750 and back + paint job=USD 2000...
And your car had a nice cruise to tell you about!!

The Earl Scheib FAQ page has a good list of questions. Be sure to ask to see some of the cars the company has just painted to make sure the answers match reality. I remember one person who looked (can't recall the paint company) and said he saw cars drying out in the open - collecting dust!

I didn't realize the prices were so good in Lebanon, Dafi. I paid USD $750 just to ship my 190E from Virginia to California house-to-house, and that was about average for the price estimates I got. Then I got stuck with CA's 7.5% "Use Fee" to register the car (but that's another story).

I changed colors on a Porsche once. Not recommended. My .02 for what it's worth.
