There is an SRS switch on the center console. It toggles the SRS on and off. I would start there.

Find someone with the appropriate diagnostic computer, the SRS is warning you about airbags / seat belt tensioners. Its probably just a faulty sensor!?!

The dash button / LED (which I don't think is on a 93) is just an indicator for the child seat airbag system, not a true button. It just weighs the passenger seat / looking for a child seat. You wouldn't want an airbag to smash in to a tiny child!

I think sl500_dallas is thinking of the ASR button located on the centre console!?!

Hope this helps...

Same issue, red SRS warning light on constantly, and red seat belt warning light on as well. 1996 SL600.

Did the STAR, it was side sensor wiring, replaced the sensor on driver side, and red warning light is now gone, seat belt warning light gone.

I wish you were not yelling yelling at me, I did come back, and reported what the issue was, something many do not, after they find the solution.

There are 2 SRS crash sensors in SL, they are located on the floor, under the carpet. They are located under Right Front corner on each seat.
To access the floor, seats need to be removed, there is no way around it. After you remove the seats, lift carpeting enough to reach the area near the door sill, right under where seat rail ends.
Sensor is held by 2 metal sceews, and the they are connected by a plug, you can see the slim wire that connects to srs sensors if you lift the seat cushion, it goes under carpet.

I ordered wrong srs sensors at first attempt, even tho MB part number seemed correct. I only found out after seats were out, the first sensors were obviously wrong size. So I went back, and turns out my late 1995 (96 model year) has different sensors, so I bought new ones on eBay, 15 EUR each, and installed them. It is not difficult job, once you know where the sensors are, and the correct part number . You need wrench to remove seats and screwdriver. Don forget to disconnect battery before removing connector, and connecting the new ones, if battery is left wired, car will think it has crashed and will blow bags.

Curiously, my local mb dealer couldn't tell me where the srs crash sensors are located lol. R129 are not common here, and no one knows anything about them, least of all dealerships, it took me a while to find out where they are in a car, seems they hardly ever need replacing, hardly any info on them.

The only crash-sensing components associated with the SRS are in the system's controller located atop the transmission tunnel. The only sensor external to the controller is the one located within the passenger seat cushion which detects when the seat is occupied.

There is a sensor mounted to the frame under one of the front seats, and it is the body lateral acceleration sensor. It is wired to the ESP controller, and its signal is not communicated to the SRS controller.

I presume your SRS lamp is on. Have the SRS controller scanned for codes with Star Diagnosis to pinpoint why.

No need to spread garbage.

There are 2 side impact crash sensors, 1995 to 2001, and not '''within seat cushion', as you parrot from some post you have read, the crash sensors are on the floor, bolted to metal, under the carpet, one one each side next to door sills.

I stand corrected. I know these sensors do not exist for an earlier model and did not realize they had been added for MY1996.

But my advice stands to the poster stands: "Have the SRS controller scanned for codes with Star Diagnosis to pinpoint why."

@valgehiir sorry to bump an old thread, have an SRS light that is not going away, could you share the part number(s) for the parts you bought? I cannot find them on FCPEuro when entering my car and want to make sure I don't make the same mistake. Mine is a 98MY so I assume it should be similar to the 96MY. Thanks!

SRS failure does not vanish if the culprit is replaced, you have to erase the code. So throwing with parts is no solution, you have to read out what is faulty first.

Thanks for noting that. Will give it a scan through the 38pin connector and see what's what.
