Looking for a hardtop for my '98 SL...found one on ebay...guy'y quoting like 600 dollars for shipping? Is this in the ballpark? He's mentioning he has to compose a structure of plywood and have it lifted by forklift...no kidding. I thought corrugated cardboard and tons of bubble wrap...but 600 dollars? If this is the going price, well, this is the going price....but DAMN. Thanks in advance for any and all advice

Unless you are strong, agile and have very long arms one person cannot lift a hardtop safely. You might be able to shuffle it about for a short distance, but bubble wrap, cardboard and standard mail isn't going to do it... apart from the awkward shape, it weights about 76ibs. So you can hardly expect an ordinary postman to drop it off for you. If the guy wants $600 for shipping why don't you drive over in your SL and stretch it's legs a bit... or make a road trip out of it. Owning one of these cars is all about passion, don't let a few logistics get in your way.
