Brake scare

Took my SL for a spin last Sunday ( no snow or road salt) I had not taken her our since late November. Bumped her up to 190 Km and then some idiot cut in front of me for a late exit. I hit the brakes and nothing happened. Just a hard pedal. Then after what seemed a life time, some feel came back and applied the brakes so hard the car almost stood on the front bumper. I guess in my panic I must have kept my pushing really hard on the pedal. I have had two opinions so far. A faulty booster or a colapsing booster hose. Needless to say, I wont take her back out until I figure this one .That was a close call. Any ideas.

You probibally just had a bit of air in the brake lines that compressed, and then worked its way out of the system when you hammered for a second time. Try to flush the brakes before you start constructive surgery, ripping out all of the brake lines.

Interesting....

Did the pedal depress and nothing happened, or did you try to press the pedal and it would not move?

I felt the latter once in my SL, it felt like I had to excessive force to get the pedal to move.

MB could not duplicate, and it never happened again.

Pedal was hard.Like when the motor is off. I covered about 30 to 40 feet before it came to life. Real scary it was. I took it in to MB and they replaced the hose which runs fromt the booster to wherever on the motor. The technician was of the opinion the hose had collapsed. It has been snowing all week so no chance to take it for a test. I will report back.
