One of two things would be my best guess. Either the tire pressure is low (check inside panel of fuel door for proper settings) or the tires were not balanced with metric weights (make sure MB dealer balanced them). These two problems are easily corrected so no worries. However, lets hope its not a chassis related problem, which can be very costly. Hope this helps and good luck.

Regards

I did the same thing with my '02 S500. I bought the tires from a auto garage and had them install and balance the tires (it seemed simpler and more convenient). Turns out, above 80, there was a vibration and the car drifted to the sides. Had MB dealer replace weights with metric ones, and the car drove flawlessly after that, even to 100+. I can't be sure it's not the alignment (since I never personally drove it), but I am sure that your descriptions were very similar to what was happening with my car (side to side at hwy speeds). The metric weights fixed it for me and I hope it works for you too. Buying the tires elsewhere is a good idea (ordered Eagle F1 GS-D3 online for my car), just make sure MB or any German Auto Garage balances them.

Sounds like you have a problem with one of your brake calipers, like one side is sticking or has more force during application then the other side. I'd check to be sure all the pads are correctly seated against the caliper and the correct pads where used in the correct locations on the car.

Help with SL320

This is a long shot, but on the ML site I read where problems occured when rims were replaced and the lug bolts were now too long. Could this be your problem and the bolts are rubbing on something especially under hevy loads that are present when breaking or at high speeds as the wind load forces the car closer to the road? Good luck!
