upon startup i get a loud squeaking sound from the engine compartment it continues as long as the car remains in park

when the car is put in drive or reverse, the squeaking dissapears

the squeaking only reoccurs very quietly at rest while in gear, at a stoplight for example

does anybody know of problems or solutions to this?

I hear a similar high pitched noise only when driving at very low speeds. When I accelerate the car, it goes away. I am also curious about just what is causing this.

It sounds in both cases like the belt or one of the pullies on its way out.
More likely the pully as the belt will still squeek even on the move..

 

fixed, req new v-belt and water pump

water pump had failing bearings
