Soft Top Problem, HELP!

I recently had a soft top installed on my '93. On each side behind the door glass there is a loop of stretchy material that looks like it should have been in the top's fabric somehow. Can anyone tell me what this is and if it is important to the top's operation?
Thanks for any help,Rick

Soft top help

http://www.classic-roadster.de/album...eck/R129F8.mpg

Look at this video. It clearly shows what to do, It needs to be fastened to the post , by first making a punched hole and then using a screw to tie it down t othe post. It is elastic and will provide some tension to keep the part of the soft top taught.

This must be a mercedes company video, it shows start to finish how to replace the soft top.

Check the video for the front elastic, which shows that it is a single strap, not a loop. The second strap in rear wraps around itself onto the upright post and has a slit whoch you insert and twist into itelf as the method to fasten. some have velcro instead.

Thank you, Thank you , Thank you.
I do not have the attachment for the strap it shows in the video so I attached it to the 2 screws that hold the side of the top.
It seems to work properly.
Thanks,Rick

soft top help

Those videos are awesome. I have a small hole where my back plastic window is cracking away from the canvas. Don't know where in WA that I can get it fixed, but see several window assemblys for sale on the net. I'm a fairly handy person so would this be something that a DIY could do or should I leave it to the experts?
