Bought a 1997 R129 SL600.

Hi all-

I purchased my 1997 SL600 about one week ago.

I took it on a 450 mile trip over the weekend and was very impressed.

This car is safe, solid, pwerful, and gets decent mileage.

Currently, I am averaging 20 miles per gallon - I couldn't believe it until I filled up at the pump.

My SL was originally imported in Canada and it was federalized in '98 or '99 (it's in the Carfax report but I can't remember it off the top of my head.)

I will try to get some pictures of it over the weekend.

I have owned a 1968 American Motoros AMX, Porsche 928s, a Ferrari 308, and this SL600.

I have to say that the SL is an amazing car and I am very pleased with it.

This forum is a wealth of knowledge and I am glad to be a part of it.

Best regards,

Vincent

Hi-

Currently it has just under 30K miles.

That should change by the end of the week

I haven't been able to find an option code sticker or paint code sticker on it.

Since it didn't originally come to this country, where would I look for those stickers?

They were not on the drivers door jamb.

The Carfax is clean and everything checks out.

It doen't have any modifications.

It's Black on Black and Gray.

Also, it does have the CD Changer in the trunk.

I have been trying to find the cd holder (it was missing on this car when I got it)

I asked around on ebay and found out that these cars came with either a Becker or an Alpine unit.

Mine does not have a brand on it - except for the Mercedes Benz text on the top of the unit.

It does have a sliding cover to protect the cd magazine.

How would I find out which unit I have.

Thanks again,

Vincent

928s are great cars.

I have four of them.

'79 Red and Black 5 Speed Manual, '79 White and Caramel 3 Speed Auto, '82 Black on Black 5 Speed manual, and an '86 White on Navy Blue 4 Speed Auto.

They are great cars has have provided thousands of miles of fun driving.

I have to admit, I prefer the SL to the 928s.

The SL is more comfortable and much more of a sleeper.

Best regards,

Vincent

There's a Russian Mercedes Site that links your VIN somehow to a database of all the options on your specific car. I thought I had saved that link, but, alas, it is gone. Maybe someone here can post the link.

Waybomb-

That site is awesome!

Thank you very much for the link!

Here is the info that they provided:

Paint Code: 040 Black
Interior: Exclusive Black Leater (561)

Options:

251, 309, 340, 460, 472, 494, 524, 551, 634, 636, 668, 740, 807, 810.

Is there a list of all of the options available?

Best regards,

Vincent
