R129 at Home Depot
We went to Home Depot last Sunday. Bought a three step step ladder that did not fit in the trunk.
We had to drop the top to easily fit it into the passenger foot well. It was cloudy and threatening rain.
A good natured guy happened to come by as we were dropping the top and suggested he would trade me his 2006 Toyota truck and trailer for the evening to "help me out".
Although he said there might not be any rubber left on the tires when he returned the car. I said he sure would have fun then with this car.
He asked what year is the car and what is it worth. I said 1999 and about $ 45 to $ 50 thousand.
He said his 2006 truck was $ 36 thousand new (but it was not a sporty convertible MB). A complement I think, for the MB brand.
If he only knew that my 1999 had already depreciated more than 2 times what his new vehicle was worth.
If he only knew he could buy an early R129 for the cost of his pick up!

Chris: Your story makes me think about the one thing I would do different -- I would save a couple of bucks and buy an older R129. From everyone's input here, they seem very reliable for years. Then, I would take the money I had saved and buy a used pick up truck for trips to Home Depot.
