What is your mileage? Any high mileage R129s out there?

Last time I posted the question, the 12 mileage figures declaired averaged to 84,250 miles. The lowest in the set was mine at 42,000 miles at that time. The higest one in that set being 130,000 miles at that time.

I'm now up to 50,600 miles (81,000 Km/1.6 Km per mile)

What are you at?

After my 1600 mile road trip last weekend, I am pushing 52,000. My baby had 41,700 when I acquired her in August 2005. So, that is over 10,000 miles in about 8 months of WEEKEND driving. I can't afford this. If I sold her now, I would probably get around $30,000 which would put me at $1.00 per mile WITHOUT operating costs.

Interesting results so far ... I've put on 8,625 miles weekend driving in the same period of time that Red Mongoose has put on 28,000 miles. Red must do more road trips and cruising than me

Relik you should definitly register in on the "how old are the R129 drivers" thread. You have one of the more high mileage SL's out there. I am very impressed that your parents have his SL65 and hers SL600. Now that is class!

Greetings All,

I have been lurking here for awhile as a guest and when I saw this post I knew had to become registered to reply. I have enjoyed reading many responses and learning quite a bit about these cars and I hope to be able to somehow be of value to this forum.

I guess that as I am getting older since I am also getting "frugal" as my 1991 SL has 187,640 miles on her!! It is Black / Saddle and 16" chrome 8 hole wheels and still running!! I tried to trade her in last month on a 1999 SL (my car plus 21K) but the Sales Manager got that "usual" greed look in his eye, well after we agreed on price before I drove to Houston from Austin, and told me I had to come up with "another" $250.00. I looked at him, looked at my SL and said "give me my keys back", hopped into my car, put the top down and drove back home with my check in my pocket. I guess now that I am less than 12 months form the big "50" I have officially become "CHEAP"! ;-)

Anyway, I am always considering an upgrade to a R230 but I have a hard time convincing myself that the sky / sun will be that much better looking in a R230 than my R129 but someday...

Thanks!

Did you buy the R129 new back when you were 34 years old?

Woohoo....

My 1996 SL600 has an astounding 98,762 miles... (Just ran out and checked it.) She is daily driven at least 20 miles a day. She is a real headturner in that she is black and looks sharp with the top down.

Now, I found the highest mileage one in the quest for the "perfect car"... There was a 1991 500SL had a little over 210,000 miles and was still pullin hard. I cant wait until blackie rolls 100,000.... You guys out there with 50,000 miles or less, you have many more pleasurable miles to go.

Justin, how does the V12 hold up at that mileage? One of my major concerns when I bought that monster was long term maintenence and reliability.

She runs awesome. We just have performed all of the reccomended maintainence, and have had very few problems. The thing that is starting to bug out now is the ADS suspension. I think I may have fixed it though, as I got a new speed sensor put in, and had the ADS computer thats bedind the light resealed. Other than that, she has performed flawlessly. She still runs like a my Submariner thats like 20 years old. Brutally reliable. Hasn't missed a beat.

My '94 SL600 has 101k miles on her now.

This thread gives info about the cars but maybe we should be asking how many miles each owner has put on their R129, as many people here bought their car used. I've only put 16k on mine in the last 3 years, one of which it remained in storage while I was out of the country. Motor still purring well.

500 SL R129, Blue - 1991. Mini Cooper S, Works Kit Silver - 2007. Mitsubishi FTO, Silver - 1996.
108,840 miles

Reconditioned, new pistons, cylinders relined, head gaskets and a bunch of other stuff done at 106,000.

Hoping for another 100k at least.

Bought mine at 97,000 nearly three years ago.

Good idea. Lets find out about the drivers as well.

We bought used in December 2002 and have put 26,375 miles on the car in 40 months of driving every weekend, some week days and going on a a few road trips .

I bought my SL in 1996 ( I was 38) when it had about 46K on her. I recently had the timing chain / Water pump replaced but, for the most part, it keeps running and looking good so I am "challenged" with when and why I should evert trade her in.
