money talks. get a gasket or two and get some flanges machined and I might know someone that would make one for you. He mostly deals with hondas, but a tig welder can weld products for whatever car you want. He could give them some twists too for some funk, but it will be somewhat pricey because it would be made to order and it's a unique item, but not as expensive as mainstream products.

I will bid 2000 dollars to who ever can make this work. I want a very nice sound and better flow for more power. JJ

My my your posts just get more and more useless.
Never said I was building one. If you really want one built give me 10kUSD plus a test/mock up car and I'll make one and dyno it for you. You think that your comment would make me compelled to make one just to prove you wrong? You really think that MB stock parts are the best they come? If you do, you need to get off the MB high horse.

1996 SL600 - 100% Stock
Wow!
Agent Murdoc,
Best in the world, maybe not. Even so, show me a car for under 1/4 million USD that can meet or beat the SL 600 in all aspects. Yes, the car costs a bundle new, but far less than most exotics, and still beats all of them in the combination of performance and luxury. I am sure more could be squeezed out of its performance, but at the expense of something else. There is something to be said for understated power, especially with such a fantastic ride. I know my Dad's Lambo had better 0 to 60 performance, but the ride is very... sporty. I know there is better luxury riding to be had, but not with that kind of performance, and not at the price. Everything considered, the SL600 has the best of all worlds for the best price.

lets start with mbz-
R230-55/600/65
ferrari 430/360
aston martin DB7/9
masserati spyder
BMW M6
the list can go on for a lot more. but all of those are 2dr Roadsters with automatic and very comfterble that anyone in there right mind would take over a R129 SL600/500/320/300/280/60/ and some even the 73or the 74 from renntech,
my .02 the R129 is not the car i would clame is the "best car all around for under 1/4 M)

The way I see it, is that you can compare this automobile two ways. One, with other cars that cost in the same price range around the time it was for sale new. Two, with automobiles in the same price range today.
The SL600 was introduced in 1993 (then badged the "600SL")
BMW had the 850: M120 far superior than BMW V12
Ferrari had 348: 300 hp V8 0-60 in 6 seconds: All sport no luxury, still a sharp looking machine (now imagine retrofitting a SC M120 in a 348! )
Porsche had 911 Turbo: 360 hp H6, awesome handling, fun drive!
My SL600 (1997, bought with 35K miles for $29K final cost including all fees and tax)
Plus: M120 V12, Solid Feel, Long Lasting, Safe, Looks
Minus: Gas Mileage, Weight (makes it safe, but 1000lbs lighter would make me very very excited)
Alternatives for same price:
High Mileage M3
High Mileage M5 or average mileage 2000 M5
(Bear in mind I was looking for an automatic car)
CL600 W140
S600 W140
W210 E55 AMG
CLK55 AMG (a couple thousand more)
SLK32 AMG (similar cost as CLK)
Porsche 911 MY1999-2001
Reasoning for choosing the SL600:
I wanted a car that would be unlikely seen on the road. Something subtle, with a nice punch to it, but rare in the area at the same time. M3's are all over. Every now and then I will see a Porsche 911. Now the CLK55: less power but very light for quick off the line runs. I did not go for it because I truly cannot compare the look between the R129 and the CLK. Fine looking car, but I love the R129 lines - hell, why else would I have chosen it.
Impressions: It's a great car. Not the best out there, but certainly near unbeatable for the money and overall package. It represents a era where MB was about build quality, something which the new SL's lack to it. Don't get me wrong, the R230's are sheer stunning, but the quality is not true Mercedes Benz. I have driven faster cars, but none with such highway capabilites and smooth solid feel (an SL65 will fill the gap). The SL has even surprised me a few times, the most being when I beat out a lighter C5 Vette on the highway back in December.
Now, in order to make it perfect, I need a 1000 lb weight reduction, rebuilt M120 with forged internals and a centrifugal supercharger. Wald bodywork, ceramic coated headers, and custom Flowmaster exhaust. As for the interior, SLK AMG seats with lots of suede trim and CF panels. Then, it would be perfect!

ok right, so if one were to compare other cars to the PAYING price they got their R129. then it would be a good deal. and my rebuttle to anyone that thinks i am a spoiled brat because i drive an all MIGHTY SL, is that it cost about the same as a new HONDA/TOYOTA.
so yea, for 15-30K the SL is a good choice car.
