I don't make a habit out of it, but it's great protection to have a jammer for the odd occasion.

1. Radar detector is NOT illegal in California.
2. I belive that radar jammers are highly illegal in every state (Federal law that you can't broadcast without an FCC license).
3. My radar detector has saved me from a few tickets. For those of you who want to know, it is one of the top of the line Belltronics. I think there are other brands that are a little better, but I wanted one I could buy in a brick and mortor store rather than mail order. I am very happy with it. Of course, on occasion I have had to slow down for false alarms. Not 100% protection, but NOTHING is, not even a jammer. (They can still clock you the old fashioned way, if they can keep up, and boy do they get pissed if they think you attempted to out run them).
4. By the way, in California, in the desert at least, they can clock you from the sky in an airplane. Jammer does nothing to stop that.
5. More advice that applies in California: A. In theory, they can haul you to jail for anything over 100 mph; B. I know someone who got a ticker for 113 mph -- $1030 fine. OUCH. I think the minimum for 100 plus is $750. I think you can get a jammer for that amount.
