SL AMG version I 2 piece rim on 208 CLK55 F1 Safety Car (1998-2000)

It looks from this and other photos taken by a fan at the 1999 Chicago Auto Show that the 208 CLK55 AMG F1 Safety Car was fitted with AMG Version I 2 piece wheels, 8.5x18 and 10x18 with 25 ET offset all around and which normally are fitted to the R129 SL.

I have a 208 CLK55 and I am thinking about emulating the Safety Car look. I have found a reputable shop that says they can fit the wheel, which I understand is not so easy to do. Indeed, the necessary hammering may require that I repaint the fenders.

Before I take the plunge, can you guys :
1. Confirm that this is the SL wheel
2. Tell me how it is constructed (cast or forged?) and the weight front and back
3. Give me an idea of its durability and any maintenance issues I should know about
4. Suggest where I might get a good deal. I might buy a used set if they are in very good condition.

Thanks!

if your going to go to that kind of trouble might as well go and make your car look like the DTM car. JJ

1. yes those are SL rims
2. It cast and made by BBS...... weight front should be 25lb & rear 35lb
3. durability...... they are not strong....... very easy to bent...... Have to watch out for the pothole.........
4. You are 2 months late of getting a good deal from me.......

Good luck of finding those rims........

A day late and a dollar short, that's the story of my life! Looks like I missed a good deal.

Is this rim vulnerable to potholes because of its 2 piece construction? Has anyone had a bad experience with them?

Just what is the benefit of 2 piece construction? Maybe lighter weight? 25 pounds up front is lightweight, 35 pounds in rear is not. Would anyone know the exact weight of these rims?

JJay911 --I actually thought a bit about going widebody à la the DTM but it spoils the looks of the CLK IMO. Not to mention the fact that it would no longer fit through my garage door .

yes, very vulnerable to potholes....... need to put 44 pound of air in the tire to avoid bent them....... it not vulnerable because of 2 piece construction..... never got a bad experience with them but I do see a lot of them bent due to not having the right amount of air in the tires....... good luck.....
