My SL500 - The whole right side is gone!!!

That why we should not let 80s year old ladies drive on the road.

As mentioned before, I had put on new spring and shocks, new real AMG rims and tires, and before I can post any after picture, this is what a 80s old lady did to my car.

She tried to make an illegal U turn on a 3 lanes road, and hit the side of my nice R129. This is so wrong. My dream car!!! I spent so much time to make it look this good!!!!

So MAD!

Very Sorry

Sorry to see the damage to your SL, but I'm glad no one was hurt. This has to be a real heartbreaker, but please don't give up. I'm sure you will get your SL back in fine shape again soon.

So nice & shiney. Out for a pleasant drive & this happens.

You must be some pissed off.

I would imagine that is all fixable.

Let us know how the insurance claim works out.

There's always a silver lining.

But seriously...that has got to hurt big time. It's almost as if you're hit in the stomach. I sincerely hope her insurance is a quality act. They'll probably try to loball you. My sincerest condolences and best of luck on the recovery. Keep us posted.

It looked like she didn't even stop voluntarily. Probably hoped you wouldn't notice (or she didn't notice until she "mysteriously" stopped).

Too bad. Once your car is hit.. it's never the same again. Make sure you find a good repair shop.

Advises?

Just talked to my buddy who owns a body shop, the cosmestic work (what he can see) will cost over $13,000.

And the mechanic part of work, he cannot take anything apart and give me an estimate until the insurance appraiser come out to look at the car.

I trust him on the body repair work, but I am just afraid that the frame, steering components will be off even after repair.

Anyone know what the repair cost to market value ratio is to have the car totaled? I need to weight all my options to see if I even want to have the car repair.

Anyone has any advise on dealing with the insurance? This is my first "real" accident.

I actually like the angular look of the non AMG package, but I did have to change the suspension and upgrade to AMG rims to give it a more agressive look compared to the original set up. (Even thought the AMG package is very nice looking too but to me it is too luxurious looking).

I did check out the price on a set of WALD bodykit, (prior to the accident), it takes them 4 - 6 weeks to custom made it from Japan. The cost is around $3500 including shipping from Japan. It cost about the same as the AMGs but it is a little more unique looking.

One of the member on this forum has the WALD kit and it looks really nice.

GO with the Original AMG kit and I know a Repair shop that you can use as well.. Dont let them salvage it and most importanly even if it take 6 weeks for your car to be repaired Make them give you a Mercedes Convertible for a Rental car.. Oh and A lawyer for your back and neck.. Check yourself out either way and send them a bill.. JJ

I wouldn't go with any body kit unless it were molded from some form of urethane. Especially for $3500.The stock bumper is an OK look, but the styling of it is simply horribly outdated compared to the AMG kit.

It looks to me like it is just going to get totaled though.

Have you seen this site?

Don't forget that you will need frame brackets to upgrade/install a AMG package.

Update

Happy New Year!!!

Finally, got the insurance matter settled! The old lady has to pay.

After they cut out the panels of the car, there was no damage to the frame as the car was hit behind the front wheels and drag on to the rear quarter panel. So mainly body panel damage.

The insurance paid $12,000 in damage and I have asked my friend to start repair on the car, which will take about 3-4 weeks.

A new door has been ordered from MB, and to my suprise, 80% of the body molding/trim pieces, rear quarter panel have to be shipped from Germany.

I am holding off on the new body kit because if I do sell my car, the insurance will have to pay me for loss value caused by the accident. If I can find a good 2002 silver arrow, that might be my move. But if the repair turns out as good as I hope, I will keep the car.

Go to the body shop right now and tell them to roll up your window. I hate how dirty body shops are. Tell the manager not to let anyone but himself sit in the driver or passenger seat. If the car has to be moved tell him you want him moving it. SO the day you pick up your baby and there is **** and grease and dust all over the interior you know who to blame.. Damn can there be just one clean body shop in SOCAL????? JJ
