The good the bad and the ugly

bought a 1991 500sl(first mercedes)last week from a man who sold it to me for $6000.00. Wanted 10,000 but dealer told him trans. work would be 4000.00. I took the SL to mercedes in georgetown texas. they ran code scan and told me I needed new delay upshift valve and valve body. (the bad). the bill would be $3,200.00. (the ugly). I bought new modulater valve $48.00 and trans.shop installed and adjusted throttle linkage. $80.00 Car now runs smooth as silk!! Oh YA! the (good) dealership has fresh baked cookie machine in service waiting room along with about eight different coffee drinks including hot chocolate, and an espresso machine. I now have beautiful 500sl with 98,000 for $6,128.00. I big question...how can a dealership with all the so called expensive scan code equipment be so wrong? Maybe intentional?
