Hi everyone,
I just bought a 99 sl500 and FJones recommended the following: (I'd like input on these issues as I'm not really savvy about this area) Is there a good indy service group in OC near Irvine. I feel like I'm getting ripped a bit.
Main pan leaking 845
Both front upper strut mount bushing torn 570
Both tie rod ends 295
Steering shock worn 112
Trans 13 pole connector and conductor plated updated 810
Belt tensioner 364
front timing cover oil cap 110
Grand total dealer = 3106 Ouch. Is this legit pricing? Are these major issues?

Thanks,
Larry

PM me, I'll inrtoduce you to someone at FJ that might be able to cut you a break.
Those prices seem normal for FJ, can't tell what they're doing exactly but ...

There are a few MB/BMW shops on Bristol you could try

Fletch has a good thing going but he sits on some pricey real estate in Newport Beach. All of those items look fairly common for a 8 year old SL. I doubt all of them need to be done at once.

For instance, is oil dripping or are the seals just wet? Belt Tensioner is important to do proactively, steering stuff will bring it back to feeling new again, cracked strut bushings are very common and should be replaced before they are really bad. Yawn...I don't see any emergency issues, but if you want peace of mind all of those should be done sometime soon.

I haven't lived in SoCal for years, back in the day I took my 450 to Dales Mercedes on the border of Newport and Costa Mesa. He knew his Benz's and was always a voice of reason. Not sure if he is still around but guessing you could get the job done for 30-40% less.

Larry,
I'm sorry that you have been given this kind of news on your 65K miles car. Did you have this car checked out prior to purchase?

I only use M-B Stealerships for information gathering. Otherwise I have had most of my work performed by INDY's. I have several local INDY's that I use.

I believe this guy is trustworthy.
