Key remote Batteries

Hi...I have a '94 SL500 and my key remote batteries need replacing. The original batteries were V675PX which is a mercury cased battery and now discontinued. The owner's manual suggest replacing them with Type 76 or Type 675 batteries. From what I've researched so far Type 76 are 1.5 volts while the Type 675 are 1.35 volts. Would the difference in voltage matter?

Any suggestions on what batteries to use? I know Zinc air batteries are available in type 675 size but these are need air to function correctly. These are primarily used in hearing aids. Some say they may not function correctly if enclosed inside an air tight or semi air tight battery compartment. My other choices are Silver Oxide and Alkalines. I guess I can just go to the dealer and see what they offer but I know they'll be several time more expensive. Thanks all !

I ordered an extra smart key for mine and made the mistake of buying extra batteries at my dealer. I think I paid $20 for two and later found the identical (watch) batteries at a WalMart for $5.95 a pair.

As far as the voltage differences, if MB said those are proper replacements, either should be acceptable, but I think I would buy the 1.5.

I have a favorite Accutron watch, 14k gold, that had mercury batteries. I went to an Accutron shop and was sold the alkaline batteries, which were 1.5v instead of the 1.35 volt. The watch gained 20 minutes before I got home, and I never was able to find the correct battery for it. Haven't worn it in many years. I doubt that your key battery is so critical.
