My ABS and ASR lights keep coming on
Out of the blue, my ABS and ASR lights come on in my '91 500. they light up irrespective of whether i am moving or not or if I am pressing the brake pedal or not. My Merc specialist had the car for a day and checked out all the sensors and everything merchanical and came up with nothing. He then replaced the "Voltage surge protection" relay - I drove it home and the lights stayed off until I entered my garage. Now they are lighting up again, seemingly randomly.
It gives me a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach to see my car sick.
Does anyone have any ideas??
Thanks
Nitti

Some good news....
OK... so it has been killing me and i have had the car at the mechanic for the last 2 days. the problem was getting worse. I was on the busiest highway in SA at 11am this morning doing around 120km/h when the engine cut out in the fast lane!!! by the time i got to the slow lane it came back on!!!
Anyway i took it to the mechanic 3 times today with the lights on and to cut an already long story short, after drawing a blank the first 2 times, the guy suggested we check that the charge rate from the alternator was ok... and he decided to check the battery....where he found that the power cable for the amplifier in the boot was loose along with the terminal for the positive and was sparking when it moved. as he touched it, the car cut out for a second and came back.
he tightened the terminal and i drove to the office and back home and no lights thus far...knock on wood.
Here's hoping its fixed.
take care
