Need help with a/c hot in Tampa, FL
I have a 1993 sl 500 and had the freon recharged with added dye. No leaks. The air blows cold aboutr 40% of the time otherwise it blows ambient temperature. I tried the a/c diagnostics and the evaporator temperature varied from 8c to 23c. My mercedes mechanic regrounded the fan which he thought was the problem. Before I take it back I wanted to try this forum. Also anyone know where to ge a soft top control unit used? Thanks

The top controller's can be rebuilt; did you pull diagnostics on the unit to know that it's bad? The links below may be of some help to you...the first is to a remanufacturer that I've not personally used, but other 129 owners have and are quite satisfied with their work-

The other site is to a string of posts re: everything you ever want to know about 129 top controllers incl. diagnosing-

Check your Owners Manual
doc,
The steps to re-synch I believe are in your owners manual. If you don't have one, you can download a copy for your car at...

doc,
I got a note that Bob Terry posted to this string,

How do you resync the windows???/ soft top
---End Quote---
You don't on your car. Prior to December '94 cars have limit switches located in the bottom of the doors that sense when the windows are lowered. Later cars don't have these switches. Instead, they have sensors that measure the motion of the windows. These sensors need to be initialized or "synched" whenever power is lost to the control module through disconnecting the battery or other means.
and I apparently owe you an apology for a suggestion that I thought valid. Bob Terry has forgotten more than most of us know; I hope he weighs in on this problem of yours as I'm out of ideas- Sorry for any confusion I created.
