SL/R129: 500SL Soft Top Stain

1993 500SL and 1991 560SEL
500SL Soft Top Stain
I purchased a 1993 500SL recently. After removing the hard top and raising the soft top, I discovered a hydraulic fluid stain about the size of a #14 shoe just below the back window on the driver's side. Any suggestions as to how I can remove this stain without damaging the canvas?

The hydraulic fluid is mineral oil based. That said, strong solvents are effective for the stain, but may not be good for the canvas. Try a 4:1 mix of water to woolite and a soft brush. Apply with spray bottle, bruch, rinse thoroughly; repeat as needed. When you get the oil diffused, you should apply a water repellant; Raggtop brand is a good one.
