tire life for 18" rims
I have 18" staggered wheels on my car, running 245/45 in the front and 275/35 in the back, i think, pretty standard set up for 18's. I put a set of Kumho Ecestra's on there and ate through the back tires in about 12K miles. I drive pretty hard and am pleased with the grip and price of the Kumho's but less than happy about the mileage.
My tire shop buddies are trying to steer me to Michelins, they think that its really the only tire up to the task of our cars, seeing as the 129 is so portly for a sports car.
I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for tires, and what kind of life you got out of them.
Thanks

I've got Kumho Ecsta 712's on my 600, same sizes are your's and i've got 20,000 on them, and they still have probably 80% tread left, which model number Ecsta are you using? I know 711's are just awful

I don't think you're going to get much more than 15k miles out of any performance tire. My Pilots made it to 17k. In August I ended up putting PS 2's on the fronts because I didn't want to mix brands (backs are still good). I was going to go with Yokahamas, which are supposed to be very nice and a bit higher milage, but they were backordered from the factory for a few months.

Pirelli PZero Nero
I have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and love them but it has been suggested that I try the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S for better mileage and price.

I have Ecsta ASX's, which are supposed to outlast your tire. How on earth do you have 20K on 712's with 80% tread left?

in short, I drive it like an old granny 95% of the time in the SL (the other 5% my foot's on the floor), and I keep the tires at 40 psi, some combination of that... who knows. I have an 07' 335i sport, and i go through a set of rear RE050A's every 7k miles. the 712's have treated me well. and to answer the mileage question, I get 12 city, and somewhere between 18 and 22 hwy.

20,000 miles and you have 80% tread left, that means you have a set of ZR rated Kumho's that are going to last 100,000 miles......that's a first.

I'll keep you posted if you like, but at this rate it will be like 4 years before I need new tires. I've got 712's on a couple of other cars, and they have all been good especially for z rated, but I agree, it seems a bit odd that they are better in the tread wear dept. who knows, maybe I'm mis-reading my tires, but 80% seems correct from what I can see
