Four seater R129???

I was checking a Norwegian car sale page the other day, and to my big surprice, I notice that most of the R129's was registered as four seaters??
A "nice" looking matching leather rear seat installed.
Can't be good for anybody passed the baby stage.

Anyway, was this an option from MB, or is this just another trick to get the tax down?

there was like a 900$ factory rear leather "seat" that you could have put in the back. not worth it at ALL! too small for a toy doll.

SL500
In the UK is rare to see an SL500 without those seats. I use them each day to leave two children to school, would be well stuck without.

Two rear seated SL's,

I see that some of them are even delivered with a 2.3 ltr engine.

Just to correct you Luda.
Not 2,3 but yes Europe have an 2,8 version also called SL280. Think they never tok this version to the US-market. Produced in Europe between 94-98.

Rear seat is likely to be equipped in 20% of the cars in Norway. New the price was quite high for thoose extra seats. I have it in my car, and it is place for my children there. However obviously not if you have driver seat complete rear as I usually have.

Actually the system is called 2+2, so that say it all I guess ;-)
My car is stored away for the winter so I can not take any picture, but I will ti the spring. I did`nt realize that you american haven`t seen that system i n the cars, since they are quite common in Europe.

In Sweden there are a shop who deliveres original back seats and seat belts in either black or grey skin, 96 version or newer seats. The price is high app. 13.000,- SEK. So if it worth it, it is up to anyone self to decide.

Hei Jori.
I am a Norwegian, presently living in Lebanon.
I might bring with me the 2001 SL500 to Norway when I return in 2-3 years.

Do you have any idea of what the customs will be, AND, would it be less with a rear seat installed.
(Sorry guys, but we have some strange import laws back home).

Per & Luda.

Hi Luda,
Rear seat or not, do not influence on taxes. However there is a brand new import system now. Pollution of the car has a big influence, more than hp and CCM.
I can calculate for you Luda, but then you must give the purchase price of the car, and when you bought it. Norwegian citizen living abroad my take a car duty free if you have lived there for more than 5 years, and owned the car for two years. Then you only need to pay 25% MVA, from your purschase amount and you get back the % amount from Lebanon. However that car can only you drive in Norway for the two or three first year.

So you see Luda, I need some information to tell you more precisely

Hei Jori.

I bought the car 2 mnts ago for US$19000.
The rule of being outside for five year is over. I have to pay full tax, even I have been living outside for 23 years.

Appeciate your help.

Hi Luda

The calculations will be as followed: Currency NOK

Bilens nettopris: 115 000
+ MVA (25%): 28 750
+ Vrakpant: 1 300
+ Engangsavgift (se tabell under for detaljer) 480 381
- Bruksfradrag (55%): 264 210
= Total kostnad inkl. kjøp av bil: 361 222

Based on that you take the car into Norway next year (2008)
HP 325 and weight 1900 kg.
(The old way is cheaper than the new C02 way of calculation)

In your case will the amount be 361222 - 115000 = 246222 NOK

If you say 1 USD = 6 NOK (pretty close) That will be 41.000 USD only in taxes.

However remember this car was USD 200.000,- new price in Norway.

If you have the bill of the car you will also get refused the Lebanon MVA (taxes) I guess that is somewhere between 10-15%) again meaning 10.000-15.000 NOK App. USD 2.000

What car value is in Norway you will find on www.finn.no.
But yes, you will be earning money on this car if you take it with you.

Hope I help you a little bit

Luda, remember that in Norway you must also have seat belts in the rear. Otherwise they will not approved the car. Here you got a link to a swedish company selling complete rear seat with seat belts.
http://www.mercedesshopen.com/

You probably find cheaper sollutions on ebay.de
