RATTLE IN DASH - 96 SL320
I have this car with 85,000 miles for about two weeks. It has developed, perhaps was there all along, a chiriping noise from the dash closer to the widshield. It does not seem to be isolated to any particular area of the dash.

1996 SL320
Dash Rattle
I also have a 1996 SL320 and had a rattle that sounded like it was in the dash. It was actually the transmission shifter rod bushings. On my car the bushings were totally missing. I bought replacement bushings but was difficult to install without special MB tool.

Hood Latches
I believe you have a very easy fix that is a part of what a Mercedes shop should do at every maintanence appt. Please get a tube of white /gray grease and lubricate the three front latches of your hood/bonnet.
This one will drive most people crazy until the above is taken care of. When yo go over speed bumps or crawl into drive ways does the car chirp? Then the fix is above. For the price and amount of work you can't go wrong.
