SL/R129 Is there a low limit where the SSVC won't work?

2003 SL500

Is there a limit where the speed sensitive volume won't work?

My 2003 SL 500 has the speed sensitive volume control but I am puzzled by the way it acts. Sometimes it seems to be spot on raising and lowering the volume, other times I have to do it manually.

Is there a volume setting that prevents the SSVC from working at all? I guess I'm trying to decide if I am messing it up by changing the volume myself.

I see nothing in the manual(s) about this feature, unlike the majority here I don't mind it but am not sure how to set it so it's loud when I drive and lower when I'm stopped.

Is it supposed to work on AM too or just FM?
