button on the dead pedal

was weondering if i was the only one who noticed a button underneath the dead pedal?

it seems to stay depressed until the engine shuts off? it doesn't seem to serve any use.

i don't know what it is, but i've noticed something "pressable" around that area. I thought it was a floor defect...

So does anyone know what it is or what it does? Kind of bugs me from time to time. Should it even BE pressable?

I'm taking my SL in for some (more) warranty service (wheels' paint peeling) and I might get someone to take a look at this while its in the shop.

Are you talking about the gas pedal?

There is a floor mounted switch underneath the gas pedal (I believe not on newer models). The floormats should not cover this.

The purpose of the switch is to kick down the transmission into a lower gear. When you floor it and you step on the pedal you feel the click and the gears shift.

When shifting into Drive, many Mercedes transmissions actually start in 2nd gear by default, rather than the first gear. This switch can force it into first gear.

I know exactly what you're talking about, you can press it down once and it stays down for a while, right? Underneath the dead pedal, there's a plastic duct that the main interior wiring harness runs through from the fuse box in the engine compartment. All you're doing is pressing down on this plastic duct. Almost every 129 is like that, there's nothing wrong or broken.

The dead pedal is just like the place where you rest your left foot. Its not really a pedal, but it is angled like one.

I dont know if that is any help to you Wolfman.

Thanks, zishan03!

Now I am curious of what that switch is all about; I'll ask my Mercedes dealer...
