97SL320 STARTS and DIES, starts and dies
Ok troupes and troupettes here's the deal. My son in law was using my wife's 97 SL320 while we were on vacation. He was driving along and the car died. He pulled to the roadside to restart. The car starts, runs a few second, and dies. This is what the car does now all the time. The car starts , runs a few seconds, and dies. I'm looking for someone who has had the same problem and solved the problem. If you are a professional MB mechanic, I look forward to your input. If you are a newbie trying to be helpful, please don't post. I've discussed this problem with some of the best in the profession to no avail. Here's a list of facts.
No codes (checked with snap-on, Baum, SDS)
Fuel pressure in specs
Delivers more than liter in 40 seconds
Grounds and power to Engine Control Module checked
No problems indicated with DAS
Tried all 3 keys including valet
CPS replaced with new unit just for s*its and giggles
Same symptoms when fuel pump made to run with Snap-On scanner
Yr model too early for rusty flywheel
Car runs on carb cleaner
While running on carb cleaner no MIL and attached noid light flashes but appears dim
This one is kicking my butt.
Thanks in advance for any new light, because I'm running out of straws.

Take a look at your $45.00 CKP Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor located at the back of the engine by the firewall and bell housing on the left side. Sounds like it may be your fix.
If that doesn't work. How many miles on the car? Could it be a MAF sensor? Typically they will through a code.
