Torn Windscreen

My flip up windscreen is starting to tear. The manufacturer (Oris) of course only wants to sell me a new one. I think I could just replace the fabric by pressure fitting it inside the frame, since there doesn't seem to be a way to take it apart. Anyone have any experience in this area or suggestions?

Unhappy Torn and worn out plastic rear windows.

Does anyone know how much it would cost (UK) to replace the plastic windows in the R129 SL '96.

Mine have got nasty white smear lines across them where they fold when being stored away and also a crack has appeared.

Thanks

I had mine replaced by Trimmania in Reading, £300 + VAT. Good job but the new plastic is heavier duty and having just taken off the hard top after winter, there are fold marks on the side windows which I hope will come out, maybe with a hair drier.

Beats having a new softtop. BTW, never lower the roof when it's cold, the plastic is brittle at low temperatures and prone to cracking.

Not sure where you would a matching mesh material.

I bought mine from Bekkers for about $300 US.

Thanks, uplate. That's a much better alternative than the dealer who wants $550 for the Windstop. However, I did talk to Oris, and they can re-screen them for about $80.00. The only hitch is that it is only done in Germany. However they told me that if I mail it to their facility in Alabama, they will take care of the transport to and from Germany.

Interesting. Mine is an original new in box Mercedes part that I bought from Bekkers. Not an aftermarket screen.

guess that dealar has a big markup :0.

Cool.. Thanks for the info, Mike....

Yeah, my local dealer is AMAZING on what they think they can charge for stuff here in the Mercedes Capital of the world. More Mercedes per capita here in Newport Beach than anywhere else on earth....and this is THE dealer and they know it...
