Remove '96 SL500 Shift
Hi. Easy problem but I'm not sure where to start. I am having difficulty removing my shifter on my '96 r129. Do I need to remove the entire shaft to remove the knob or will it twist off? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi
There is a ferrule underneath the gear knob which needs to be turned about 90 degrees - this then loosens the knob which should then slide off with a bit of slight twisting motion - putting it back on is the reverse of this.
