I clean mine w/ plain alcohol, but there are probably many cleaners you can use safely.
I lubricate with graphite lubricant, comes in small tube at AutoZone, et.al.

Use the special Hirschmann cleaning wipes. See GLG Direct on Ebay. http://stores.ebay.com/GLG-Direct He sells them and any parts you may need. They wipes are the only thing recommended by Hirschmann. They are cheap. Or use whatever you want and be prepared...... Good luck
