Question SLAM AN SL WITH ADS????

i've never had any problems with previous rides, but an SL500 with ADS and height control is posing a few complications...maybe someone out there can help.

Q. How can i lower this car and what exactly needs to be done (bearing in mind that it has the damping control and height adjustment)?

With 18s its sitting about 35mm too high for my liking.

Any advice appreciated.

I wouldn't even think about it. Your 92 500SL is worth, what, £16k max? (My 96 SL600 is worth no more than £19k). Messing with the suspension is going to be expensive and will reduce still further the re-sale value of the car. In three years time, who is going to want to buy a 14 year old Mercedes SL with lowered suspension?? Leave the car as is, enjoy it and save the money towards something more recent.

You're talking sense - it's sitting nicely today so i think i'll put the money to better use.

By the way, love the winch for the SL hardtop, not sure i'd leave a new SL55 underneath!

Your "car park" is superb by the way.

Agree with that, you already have some nice extras on the car like the 18 inch rims.

I've had the winch for 4 years but I did give it a thorough check before removing the hard top this spring, it would not be my happiest day to come in to the garage to find the hard top sitting on top of the SL55!

The ADS System lowers the car by about a half inch at 60mph. (at least it does on my 99). I believe RennTech sells a computer modification that makes it ride at the lower height at all speeds, but I am not sure it is for an SL. Check renntech.com. If it's not on the web then send them an email as they carry many items I cannot find on the site.

Thanks John but i'm actually quite happy with the ride height of late. The Override Protection Relay was faulty which was causing the ADS system to not function correctly. It worked intermittantly and after hooking up a multimeter to the relay it was clear there was a problem (if i'd taken it into a dealer they'd have charged for a replacment module, so a lucky fix really but took forever to diagnose).

All is now well, plus being in the UK makes it inconvenient and rather pointless to get in touch with Renntech.
