1992 500sl Key Reintegration
Hi,
I recently purchased a 1992 500SL from a family friend and the lock/unlock button on the keys do not work. I replaced the batteries and still haven't had any luck. When I hold down the button the red infrared light will flash but no lock/unlock action happens. Because of this issue the car alarm tends to go off upon sticking the key into the ignition when I come back to my parked car after manually using the key to lock the car doors.
The last thing I want to do is bring it into a dealership and have my car stay there for a few days and pay money to get this issued resolved. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime is there a way to turn the alarm off?

Is your alarm aftermarket? Does the door lock area have a red/green light pad?
I use the idiot way to reset many alerts (MAP, Ck Eng light ARS et al,) disconnect negitive pole on battery ( in the trunk, on the passenger side, under a carpeted panel)
