Oil Change Question re: Oil TYPE??
On my old old old 
1996 SL320 that I am letting my mom use in NY, I was going to get an oil change and wasn't sure what to put in it.
I called the dealer I typically used in Jacksonville, Florida who is a big dealership and they said for all engines older than 1997 they use Kendall 15w40, the oil change center said that is typically an oil used in DIESELS and of course my SL320 is not a diesel.
I called another dealership and their service advisor said synthetic 15w30.
Any recommendations what I should be using.
This has been a great car almost 160,000 miles and still going strong.

Synthetic Oil
The price of synthetics and regular oils are close these days so go for Synthetic Oil 0W40. The best is Royal Purple, then Mobil 1.

In my '96 SL600 (~120K miles), I use 0w-40 Mobil One... simply because that's what I've always used. But realistically, any good synthetic will work well. I prefer to 40w, as opposed to the 30w because of the - more or less - higher miles on the engine. The synthetic will stand up better, mile for mile, than standard 'dino' oil.
