R129 SL500 Brake pad replacement help
Hi, I am getting ready to change the front brake pads on my 2002 SL500 Silver Arrow. I have seen some great posts here for pad replacement on other models but none for the late model SL500 which I heard is extremely easy to do. Anyone have any links to share or can you just give me the steps I need to do after I take off the wheel? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Consider replacing the pads with ceramics, i.e Akebono, and others. Great stopping ability, no squeal, and best of all, no brake dust on your wheels. I have them on the front & rear of my car and love them.
BTW, MB dealers tell you not to turn the discs ever, when replacing pads, and to buy new ones. My independent tech(MB Trained) says only turn them once before replacing. At the very least, mic them to see how much material you've got to work with to help you decide. Surprisingly, IMO, the Silver Arrow drilled rotors aren't that expensive.
This info may help you...

Front brake pad replacement
I found that if you are replacing the pads and the rotors it is best to buy MB rotors. If not you will get squealing. Believe me I tried 5 different pads and could not get rid of the squeal because I had installed non-MB rotors. Save the grief, the MB pads are not that much more expensive especially if you buy them from parts.com. They will come from a dealer at a much cheaper price. Parts.com is the way to go.

2001 SL500 (R129) Brake Rotor and Pad Change
I owned a 2001 SL500 (R129) with 70,300 miles and yesterday after i removed the Jurid Pad from the caliper I noticed that there are two round steal attached to the plate inside the piston's cylinder. I replaced the front brake Pad with Akebono Ceramic and an OEM MB R129 Rotors without the plate with round steel. My question is what is the purpose of these two round steel inside the brake piston. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
