90 500sl (129) vs CLK430 (208)
hey guys,
i have been offered a good deal for a trade on my 2001 clk430 for a clean 1990 500sl + cash my way,
the car looks good and has some good extras, lorinser dash and wheels, AMG interior etc,
my 430 has been rock solid and pretty economical to run given its performance it has,
what i need to know is how reliable are these cars as it will be my daily drive, and how do they compare performance wise.
thanks

Keep the CLK
I own both a '99 CLK430 and an '02 SL600 (R129).
The CLK will be infinitely more reliable - a '90 SL500 is getting a little long in the tooth and unless it has had impeccable maintanence, you could be looking at a continuous series of expensive issues to correct. Plus, all it takes is one or two of the electronic modules to fail making the car no longer economical to repair (unless you are a DIY mechanic and willing to try used/recycled parts).
