interior question

I wish to thank all of you and the people who put this site together.
It Makes working on this Jewell allot easier.Keep up the great work.
97 500sl129. The black interior is getting slightly faded. There are no rips just a slight weathered look on the dash, seats, etc. What is the best way
(short of redyeing) to bring back the black leather to looking good ?

I love to restore the leather with Lexol , both cleaner ( often more of the cleaning ) and the restorer. I like the patina of experienced leather. Other surfaces I like the spray ArmourAll, but several of the new products may have less of the wet appearance.

Lexol is an excellent leather cleaner and conditioner. Normally, I treat my leather (especially the SL) roughly every 3 months. But if your leather is starting to fade, try applying leather conditioner every week for about a month to get a good, deep conditioning. If the leather is too dried out, there isn't much that will revive it. Once the leather has started to 'soak up' the conditioner and becomes more supple, you can back off to a more modest frequency.

I use leather conditioner on the dash as well; just habit, I guess. Not a fan of Armor-All; for vinyl and such I use 303 Protectant. Here's their webpage... http://www.303products.com/

For the wood, use regular ol’ Pledge (the furniture polish). Doesn’t really do anything for the wood itself, but shines the clear coating real good; assuming the clear coat is not yellow/faded. Use it just like you’re polishing furniture in the house – spray a little on the cloth and work it in.

Here’s a great tip for keeping the rails of the center console roll-up door clean and smooth… Spray the end of a Q-Tip liberally with Pledge and while the Q-Tip is still wet, work it into the rail guides. Follow with a dry Q-Tip to remove excess. Run the roll-up door a couple of times and repeat as necessary. Keeps the roll-up smooth as silk and helps prevent binding.

Cheers,
Jeff
