I have a 1990 sl 300 my problem started 2 days ago when i went to turn on the car which i use almost everyday, i put the key in all the lights and sounds turned on but when turned the switch to start the car nothing happened i played with the shifter thinking that i didnt put it in park and again nothing. I gave it a few minutes and i tried again the same nothing i retried shifting the gears and it worked the car turned on. The problem is that next day i had to play again with the shifter gear and thats how it turned on again but then i noticed that my Horn, Turn signals, Hazard lights, and windows don`t work i checked all of my fuses and there good. That was yesterday now im getting ready to go to work and i went to turn on the car and nothing again i mean it doesnt do anything even after doing the shifter gear thing. Can some tell if what to do if it has happened to you or is it my starter..thanks in advance

 

My first inclination would be to have the battery checked. Your symptoms sort of lean toward the battery, but the fact that the car starts just after fiddling with the shifter the first time does not. But in MB's, a weak battery causes many strange things.

Update I bought a new battery to see if that would solve the problem and I still have the same result it don't crank over

 

It sounds like a bad or out of adjustment neutral safety switch. When it won't start in park will it start in neutral?

No, but eventually it could fail entirely if you let it go too long.
