Dealer says $200 for each pin. I paid $200 for the hardtop. I guess ill go back to the junkyard and removebthe pins from the softtop and make my own for the hardtop.

The MB $200 price tag for each pin is probably because most junkyards may not want to sell the pins without the hardtop. Thus they are tough to find. Junkers may view the two as integral, which they are. That said, bear in mind that the pins are different between the hardtop and soft-top. Dimensionally they are probably the same, and the bolt pattern looks similar, but the material is very different. The soft-top pins are quite rigid while the hardtop pins are somewhat flexible. I suspect the hardtop pins are designed to be flexible since the hardtop locks in position the same way, but getting it aligned prior to locking the pins may require them to have a bit of flexibility. Just a thought. If you can get them off an old soft top for virtually nothing, then it may be worth a shot. Just be careful when installing the hardtop.
Cheers,
Jeff

Good score, dude! Congrats on the find. Personally, I love wrecking yards. Never know what you might find at (usually) a ridiculously low price.
Cheers,
Jeff

What is the going rate for a complete hardtop for a 1996 500SL? I'm from Saskatchewan Canada and havn't had any luck finding any being parted out. I'd also like a windshield and a drivers headlight lens and an ashtray. A radio and antennae would be nice too as mine doesn't even have a display panel that lights up.

Not sure what color you're looking for, but I have a white hardtop that was in my garage when my 94 320SL was totalled. Just had a new headliner installed on it.
Not sure if it will fit or not .... $500+shipping.. might be pricey to canuckastan. but if you drove into the states somewhere to pick it up and put it on the car.....
