My suggestion would be saving and do it right (do it once and do it right). I did the aftermarket lights with my first R129 and it did not look right. I later had to change it to the OEM. Back then (over a decade ago), the aftermarket xenon kit cost $600 so it was a waste of money.
The oem comes with the projectors. If you put aftermarket into the non-oem-xenon, it will look bad. Some is ok with it but I would not do it again.
It's your choice tho. The good thing is, now you can buy a "hid kit" for like $40!
Good luck and don't forget to update your profile (you get better help that way).

Actually, as I've stated in my post #4 above, you can get the "HID kits" now for $40 but we are not talking about that because HID bulbs in non-xenon housing headlights will glare the oncomers.
The expensive part here is the OEM housing for the xenon light. Auto parts (or regular auto stores) do not sell those.

If you go to ebay the German edition and search r129 headlights you will find the euro H-4 version at about $550.00 a pair plug and play. Great lights and a lot less expensive than the HID's and almost as good.

At 16 you have good night vision and will have plenty of time to upgrade. Even as an old person I am pleased with the standard 55W bulbs or the "blue" bulbs. The cost is a few dollars. The sad factor is that the older Benz had less intense light and when MB offered the HID, that modification comes with ballast and headlight enclosure changes and vehicle leveling systems.
